PHBL-EI – Problem-Health-Based Learning Education Initiative (2025–2029)
The PHBL-EI project is establishing a framework for evidence-based teaching and learning transformation at the Technical University (TUC), which supports instructors in designing their courses using research-based methods and health-oriented approaches. The goal is to enhance learning effectiveness, raise awareness of healthy learning, and sustainably embed a learner-centered teaching approach.
For instructors:
- Practical support: Access to proven tools (e.g., Teaching Practices Inventories, Student Engagement Observation Protocol) and subject-specific pedagogical research to evaluate and optimize teaching methods.
- Research-based development: Integration of findings from movement research and iterative evaluations to continuously improve teaching and learning processes.
- Professional development: Participation in an “agile learning organization” that makes insights from transformation projects transparent and keeps them available for future applications.
Focus on current research:
- Building on the successful Carl Wiemann Science Education Initiative (SEI), the approach to problem-based and health-oriented learning will be further developed.
- Integration of kinesiology and mental health aspects to strengthen study skills and learning environments.
Preliminary Work:
Already, 15 professors and 20 instructors from all faculties have expressed interest in redesigning 35 courses in collaboration with project staff. By 2030/2031, up to 42 courses are expected to be transformed.
PHBL-EI combines academic excellence with practical implementation to make teaching at TUC future-proof and performance-enhancing.
The PHBL-EI project is a collaborative initiative with the Center for Higher Education Pedagogy.
