Gravel biking together and collecting stamps
This gravel group is aimed at anyone who fancies getting out and about together, discovering new routes around Clausthal and meeting like-minded people along the way. The course is all about riding together – we’ll adapt to the group’s abilities: the pace will be set by the ‘slower’ participants. It’s not a race, but about making progress together and enjoying the ride.
In addition – depending on the group’s needs and ability level – short technical sessions will be incorporated into the sessions, e.g. on line choice on gravel, singletrack and rougher sections, as well as riding and braking techniques (traction/gravel braking).
We’ll also practise breakdown assistance where necessary, e.g. patching/changing inner tubes and quickly resolving minor issues on the go, so that the ride can continue safely and smoothly.
The aim is to cover at least 16 or even 24 stamp points on the Harz Hiking Badge trail in the Clausthal area during the approximately 15 sessions in the winter term, in order to receive the Silver or Gold Hiking Badge upon completion of the course.
Route profile:
- approx. 25–40 km per tour
- up to 500–600 metres of elevation gain
- occasionally, more challenging sections may occur, including some rougher passages (e.g. roots, slightly obstructed terrain); singletrack difficulty max. S2
Entry requirements:
Please bring: a non-motorised gravel bike (a fitness bike or hardtail MTB is also acceptable, but no e-bikes), a helmet, clothing suitable for the weather (protection against the wet and cold), as well as a repair kit/inner tube and lights (front and rear) for your own bike.
If you enjoy riding on gravel routes, like getting out and about in the fresh air with others, and are keen to take on the ‘Harzer Wandernadel’ challenge, then you’ve come to the right place!
