Expansion of activities for active learning
Event: "Developing Health Literacy in Higher Education Institutions – Empowering Students for Their Professional Future" on May 25, 2024, in Paderborn
Active teaching and learning are not yet the norm in everyday university life. Although we are all aware of the benefits of daily physical activity and a healthy, sustainable lifestyle, the reality is almost always different. There is clearly a need for action here.
All the more reason to delve deeply into the topic “Developing Health Competencies at Universities—Empowering Students for Their Professional Future” on May 25, 2024, in Paderborn.
The newly established Start Up Center OWL at the University of Paderborn, complete with a “Maker Space” where students have the opportunity to put their own ideas and innovations into practice, offered not only an open, creative, but also an active environment for exchange, networking, expert knowledge, and discussion. Through various formats, the aim was to develop movement-related health competencies and empower students and faculty to lead active daily lives during their studies and careers. All in all, this provided ample inspiration for our own teaching and new research questions.
The goal must be to work with all stakeholders to foster more physical activity (in everyday life at universities) and equip students with the knowledge to carry these competencies into our working world. For ourselves and for our society. At Clausthal University of Technology, we address this topic at the Sports Institute (SITUC) and develop innovative solutions for physical activity, biomechanics, and health promotion in university sports and in the Sports Engineering program.
Thank you to everyone who made this day and this exchange a success.
