Welcome to the website of the Sports Institute

The Sports Institute at Clausthal University of Technology offers students, university staff, and members of the public interested in sports a way to counterbalance their sedentary daily lives. Over 60 sports are offered, supplemented by seasonal recreational courses.
With the introduction of the B.Sc. program in Sports Engineering, the official division into the areas of university sports and exercise science was established.
The latter encompasses sports science, practical sports, and interdisciplinary courses, which have been adapted and expanded in accordance with the curriculum.

Campus Run

IMEL’s successful participation in the 37th Clausthal University Campus Run 2026

Amidst another great atmosphere and almost ideal running conditions, the 37th Clausthal University Campus Run took place on Tuesday 9 June 2026 as part of the Campus Open Air. Once again this year, the event was all about team spirit, exercise and the shared joy of sport.

The Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL) was represented for the first time since the ‘institute merger’ as a single team, the ‘IMEL Tractors’, and lined up at the start with a motivated squad. Participants completed either the 2.4-km circuit or the 7.2-km distance, depending on their personal preference. Alongside sporting ambition, the main focus was on presenting a united front as a team.

The Campus Run once again offered a varied programme: whilst the youngest participants started in the children’s race over approximately 500 metres, this was followed by the classic Campus Run over one or three laps. Even participants less focused on performance were able to enjoy the route at a more relaxed pace as a walk. The event thus once again underlined its inclusive nature, where it is not just speed but, above all, community that counts.

The demanding route across the campus, with its elevation changes, challenged the runners as usual. At the same time, numerous volunteers along the route ensured a pleasant and safe atmosphere.

The day was rounded off by the Campus Open Air, which created a lively festival atmosphere around the canteen building with music, food and drink, and a wide range of hands-on activities.

IMEL would like to extend its sincere thanks to the organising team behind the Campus Open Air and the Campus Run for the excellent organisation of the event. The successful turnout once again demonstrates the strong sense of unity within the institute and the active fusion of science and team spirit.
